Apple is reportedly preparing to expand its MacBook lineup. The company announced the M2 Ultra chip during WWDC 2023 and it has been reported that they have started working on the M3 chip. According to the claim, Apple will unveil a 15-inch MacBook Air powered by the M3 chip in 2024.
M3-based 15-inch MacBook Air coming in 2024
The M2-powered MacBook Air model made a big impact last year. Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is working on the next generation of MacBook Air models. The new laptop, powered by the M3 chip, is expected to be released in early 2024.
Apple currently uses a 5nm architecture in the M2 chip. One of the significant improvements in the M3 chip will be in this area. According to the claim, the tech giant will transition to TSMC’s more advanced 3nm architecture in its new processor.
Gurman mentioned that the M3 will offer the same number of cores as the M2 in both CPU and GPU aspects. As you may know, the M2 features a 16-core Neural Engine with a processing capacity of 15.8 trillion operations per second.
Furthermore, the MacBook Air won’t be the only Apple device to receive the M3 upgrade. Gurman also mentioned that an iMac with M3 support will be released in early 2024. We will also see the M3 chip in the 13-inch MacBook Pro later on.
The M2 Ultra, which contains over 130 billion transistors and features a unified memory architecture supporting up to 192GB of memory capacity, stands out for being more powerful and efficient compared to previous Apple chips.
